It has been a long day of sailing and the anchor is now down. Time for some rest. But, the wind is picking up and you're having trouble falling asleep. Asking yourself if you chose the right anchoring technique? Then this training is for you. Learn the best anchoring techniques to deal with many of the conditions you will face Am I safe from other boats anchored nearby? What about changes in current, tide or wind? What if I begin to drag?” These and other questions are addressed in the Anchoring Clinic.

This two-hour hands-on, on-the-water class will introduce you to such techniques as picking up a mooring ball, setting an anchor properly, setting two anchors, anchoring bow and stern, Bahamian anchoring and Med mooring. We will discuss selecting the right anchor configuration for your situation, what to do about a fouled anchor, risk of rode in the prop and other issues.

Our goal? A good, sound sleep the next time you spend the night at anchor.

DOCKING- Aboard a Jeanneau 349 or Jeanneau 44DS - $150*

This two-hour clinic will teach you how to control your vessel in close quarters maneuvering, instead of the other way around.  It is one of the few classes that you will use every time you depart or arrive at a dock—and most students are pleasantly surprised to find themselves at an advanced-or even expert—level at the end of this fun session.

Following a short discussion about the 4 forces at work while motoring (prop walk, prop wash, wind, and current) we will review the basic undocking and docking techniques.  This is a “hands-on” clinic, so you will be doing all of the driving.   You will practice fairway turns and backing the boat, and then we’ll move into a series of drills designed to lead you to mastery of these docking situations:  upwind, downwind, crosswind, portside-to, starboardside-to, bow-to, and stern-to.  Your final exercise will be backing your vessel into a slip with confidence and authority.

The clinic is offered Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Your instructor will be one of the licensed and certified members of the award winning staff of Sailing Florida Charters and Sailing School.   Space is limited to 6 people per time slot.
