Offered in cooperation with Sailing Florida Charters & Sailing School, Inc.
This 2 hour clinic will enable you to control your vessel in close quarters maneuvering, instead of the other way around. It is one of the few clinics that you will use every time you depart or arrive at a dock—and most students are pleasantly surprised to find themselves at an advanced—or even expert—level at the end of this fun session.
Following a short discussion about the 4 forces at work while motoring (prop walk, prop wash, wind, and current) we will review the basic undocking and docking techniques. This is a “hands-on” clinic, so you will be doing all of the driving. You will practice fairway turns and backing the boat, and then we’ll move into a series of drills designed to lead you to mastery of these docking situations: upwind, downwind, crosswind, portside-to, starboardside-to, bow-to, and stern-to. Your final exercise will be backing your vessel into a slip with confidence and authority.
The clinic is offered Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am and again at 12:30pm. Your instructor will be an ASA certified instructor from the award winning staff of Sailing Florida Charters & Sailing School, Inc. Clinic is limited to 4 people per time slot. So sign up early to insure your place. Cost: $ 125.00. The clinic fee includes one admission ticket to the St. Pete Boat Show. If space is available, registration is possible at the Discover Sailing Tent. The cost of on-site registration is $ 150.00
Space is very limited— advance registration is highly recommended. If you have any questions or special requests please contact Gary Edelman the Sail America Discover Sailing Director at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 414-944-1550.
