Sail America Hosts First-Ever Industry Regatta June 13 in Newport, RI
Open exclusively to Sail America members, the first-ever 2008 Sail America Industry Regatta sponsored by West Marine will take place on Friday, June 13th at Sail Newport. The Industry Regatta kicks off with breakfast and registration at 8:30 a.m., followed by a skipper briefing and team photos. Company crews of four to a boat will set sail in 12 identical Sail Newport J-22’s in the race area just west of Goat Island from late morning until mid-afternoon. Industry teams that have already signed up include sailors from Gill, West Marine, Sail Magazine, Ronstan, Sailing World/Cruising World, Forespar and Offshore Sailing School.
“Depending on the breeze, we will try to get in at least five races and then come back and celebrate with a BBQ and prize-giving ceremony,” said Sail America Executive Director Jonathan Banks. “So put away the laptops, store the Blackberry in the glove compartment and come sailing just for the joy of it and the chance to be crowned, ‘the fastest in the sailing industry,’ with first, second and third-place medals awarded to the winners.”
Sponsored by West Marine, the 2008 Sail America Industry Regatta is also supported by GE Capital Solutions, Gill North America, North Sails and US SAILING.
Space is limited, so please register today at www.sailamerica.com or contact Kimberly Tuchon or Jonathan Banks at 401-841-0900.
