Harken Promotes Two Within Global Marketing Team

HarkenHarken recently announced a reorganization of its global marketing team.

Sixteen-year company veteran Mark Wiss was named Global Sales and Marketing Director, while 20-year employee Cathy Schnitzler was promoted to Global Marketing and Communications Manager.

"This announcement marks two well-earned promotions that we are happy to see occur," said Harken USA's CEO Bill Goggins. "Mark and Cathy have both proven to us at Harken throughout the years that they are extremely well-suited to manage the Harken brand with care and excellence. Their creativity and competence lead us to expect great things from this new team."

SAIL Appoints New Electronics Editor

Ralph Naranjo was recently named electronics editor of SAIL Magazine, announced SAIL editor-in-chief Peter Nielsen.

Naranjo will be based in Annapolis. He has circumnavigated with his family aboard his 41’ Ericson, Wind Shadow. He is the published author of several books, former technical editor of Cruising World, formerly managed a full service boatyard and acted as Vanderstar Chair at the US Naval Academy.

Former Electronics Editor Tim Bartlett will continue to write as a contributing editor, as well as remain at the helm as electronics editor for Power & MotorYacht.

Sail America Members New England Ropes and Henri Lloyd Receive West Marine Vendor Awards

West Marine announced the winners of its annual Very Important Vendor Awards at the company's Watsonville Support Center in California.

New England Ropes won the award for “Best Supply Chain Partner” and Henri Lloyd won the award for “Best Direct Sales Support.” Other winners included Star brite, Garmin, Taylor Made Products, Kopcoat and Columbia.

Beneteau Adds New Connecticut Dealer

Beneteau USA recently named Prestige Yacht Sales as its new Connecticut dealer. The dealership has been in business 21 years and operates in Stamford, Essex and Mystic.

Bruce Brown and Associates Celebrates 20-year Anniversary

Sail America member Bruce Brown and Associates recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary. Started in June of 1990, the manufacturer’s representative agency has been active in the marine industry since its founding, with offices in both Costa Mesa and Long Beach, CA.

The company represents manufacturers in the recreational marine, commercial marine, outdoor sporting goods and hardware industries. Selling to builders, distributors, dealers and installers, the company continues to address markets as they change and covers territory including CA, AZ, NV, HI, TX, LA and NM.

“I am grateful to the principles we represent, the customers we service and the many industry friends we enjoy.  I look forward to enjoying another 20 years together,” said Brown, who also serves as the current president of the Southern California Marine Association. He is also past president of the United States Marine Association and serves on many industry committees.

Offshore Sailing School Promotes Sail for the Cure

Offshore Sailing SchoolThe Offshore Sailing School is hosting a local promotion that invites tourists and locals alike to celebrate Labor Day while learning a new skill to benefit a worthy cause. The well known sailing school is offering one-hour sailing sessions at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, and Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa on Ft. Myers Beach, for $25 a person, with all proceeds donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Offshore is a national sponsor of The Leukemia Cup Regatta and has twice previously provided its Florida fleet to the national Fantasy Sail Weekend.
 
“The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is very close to our heart which is why we want to join sailors nationwide in support of LLS’s efforts to cure lymphoma, leukemia, Hodgkin’s Disease and myeloma,” said Offshore’s CEO and President Doris Colgate.

Besides the instruction aboard a sleek Colgate 26, students will receive discount coupons for sailing course getaways including tuition and accommodations.

11th Annual NARC Rally Planned

Building on the success of last year’s event that drew 31 boats, Rally Organizer Offshore Passage Opportunities has announced it is waiving the entry fee for the 11th Annual NARC Rally* to the Caribbean which is slated to depart October 31, 2010 from Newport RI.  In addition, the organizer advises that all seaworthy boats should begin gathering the last week in October at the Newport Yachting Center in Newport RI.

The NARC Rally traditionally attracts both professionally crewed yachts and private boat owners. Last year saw an upsurge in first-time cruisers, so this year’s event will feature a full day seminar on Friday October 29 for skippers and crew. OPO also offers a free crew network service.

Weather routing is presented by Susan Gennett of “Real Weather.” Bermuda hosting is sponsored by the St. Georges Dinghy & Sports Club. Marina Group IGY Marinas is sponsoring the rally finish with free dockage, and the first annual “Start of the Season Party” at Simpson Bay Marina St. Maarten.

SAGA Yachts Launches Strategic Alliance with Bruckmann to Build Performance Cruising Sailing Yachts

J.J. Taylor & Sons Ltd., owner of the SAGA brand, has developed a strategic alliance with Bruckmann Yachts to build its SAGA line of ocean cruising sailboats at the Bruckmann yard in Mississauga, Ontario. The line includes the Bob Perry-designed 35, 43 and 48, and the Tony Castro-designed 409.

“Bruckmann is a near legendary yard and these designs are near and dear to me,” said Perry. “I am very happy to hear that SAGA will be working with Mark Bruckmann to continue to legacy of these breakthrough sailboats.”

Gowrie Group Announces New Appointments
