New Director of Marketing for Latitudes & Attitudes Announced

Darren O'Brien, formerly producer/director of Latitudes & Attitudes television with 52 half hour episodes under his belt, has been promoted and named director of marketing for FTW Publishing. Darren brings 20+ years of advertising and marketing experience to the role including stints as a tech writer in the high tech industry, followed by a creative director position for a Fox TV affiliate where we won numerous Telly Awards. His career also includes ad agency work as a creative director with clients in eight western states, and eventual ownership of his own firm, MOoNFiSH Advertising. Darren is an active sailor who wanted to combine his professional expertise with his love of sailing, and partnered with Latitudes & Attitudes in 2004 to begin producing the country's first nationally broadcast television series about sailing and cruising.

Sailor Dieter Lobner Publishes New Book, Sustainable Sailing

Dieter Loibner has been writing about boats, events, people and the history of sailing for more than 20 years. A marine journalist, the Austrian-born Loibner currently serves as an editor of Soundings magazine and is the U.S. correspondent for Yacht, Europe’s largest sailing publication, plus has worked on numerous top national and international titles. The author of the Folkboat Story and editor of Sailing Big on a Small Sailboat, Loibner has just launched a new book embracing the green message for sailors entitled, Sustainable Sailing: Go Green When You Cast Off, published by Sheridan House.

Gowrie Group Serves Up Success: Corporate Challenge Raises $70,760 to benefit The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries

As previously reported in Sail America News, the Gowrie Group recently sponsored a corporate challenge to benefit The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries in an effort to support the local shoreline community. The initiative, which ran from November 15 through December 31, included a dollar match for fund raised up to $25,000, with the LC Doane Company matching the next $5,000. According to a recent release, nearly 175 businesses and friends contributed to the challenge, raising 70,760 to benefit the organization, which results in 283,040 meals worth of food.

Marine Marketers of America Announce New Officers and Board, Plus Launch New Website, Marketing to Women Pro Bono Toolkit

Several well known sailing industry leaders were elected to the 2010 Marine Marketers of America leadership team, announced at the Miami International Boat Show.

Sail America members tapped include Wanda Kenton Smith, second-term president; Eric Macklin, vice president, Dufour Yachts; returning board members Sally Helme, The Sailing Company, and Van Perry, TUI Marine/The Moorings; and newly elected board member Bentley Collins, Sabre Yachts and Back Cove Yachts.

In other news, a new website was launched at www.marinemarketersofamerica.org which includes a new design platform, membership directory, LinkedIn, professional development white papers and a job bank. Future plans include the hosting of webinars and a national marketing summit.

Also posted is the association’s Marketing to Women Marketing Toolkit, a pro bono project of two years that involved dealer research on marketing to women initiatives, resulting in free ad slicks, press release and radio script templates and other materials which are available free of charge to industry dealers for usage with their own marketing to women initiatives.
