Annapolis Sailing Industry Association (ASIA) Considers Variety of Initiatives

An enthusiastic crowd of 20 working as a roundtable organization met in Annapolis last December to discuss the group’s areas of opportunities for promoting sailing together in 2010.

According to Tartan/C&C’s Mike Titgemeyer, some of the considerations included an association booth space at the Baltimore Boat Show with raffles in order to build prospect lists for exhibitors, Midnight Madness events during the holidays to promote giving the gift of sailing, and a variety of “Spring Sails Events” which would be open to all ASIA members and held throughout the community.

The group also reported that a free sails event associated with Annapolis Community Boating (ACB) was a “huge success,” with 450 people participating on Sundays from 1-4 pm. ACB is working with Parks & Recreation to find a more permanent storage and operational venue.

SpinSheet’s Mary Ewenson spoke briefly about the book Saving Sailing, which she recommended to the group for review.

In other news, the US Boat Shows reported that the Nautical Flea Market plans are progressing well and is expected to be “bigger and better than last year.”
