UNITED STATES YACHTS SHOWS LAUNCHES “CRUISERS UNIVERSITY,” FEATURING AN EXCITING CRUISING SEMINAR PROGRAM SUPPORTED BY SAIL AMERICA
The United States Yacht Shows Inc. announced it will host its first Cruisers University at the Baltimore Inner Harbor Marine Center on May 12-15. The event features hands-on instruction by well established, accredited instructors on a variety of topics ranging from general cruising to provisioning, to diesel maintenance, weather forecasting, and the new Seamanship Series. Participants will have access to boats docked on site for demos and sea trials, with 150 sail and power cruisers expected to be on display, along with an additional projected 100 boating-related exhibits. Each evening will include a mix of social activities and business keynotes.
Sail America is actively involved in the development of this event and will coordinate the production of 25 seminars and additional mini courses, including the “Introduction to Cruising” seminar.
“We are very enthused about the prospects for and early response to our plans for Cruisers University in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore,” said US Yacht Shows’ Paul Jacobs. “This is really the only event of its kind that combines all the best attributes of our Fall shows in Annapolis, with some of the most skilled instructors from around the boating world, and the interactivity of our Take the Wheel program. High-level course work will be paired with hands-on demos both on board and on land. Meals, keynote presentations, Cruising Ambassador meetings, evening meals and parties, hotel and parking packages, and sea trials on sail and power boats are all offered as part of this event. For anyone dreaming of or planning to cruise away into the sunset, there is no better time or place to learn what you'll need to know before you go.”
“We believe this is exactly the type of program Sail America should support and help promote,” added Sail America Executive Director Jonathan Banks. “Helping to design and develop programs that motivate people to sail is where we need to focus our efforts in order to promote and help stimulate the growth of the sailing industry. We’re excited to be involved.”
