Five Additional Sailboat Manufacturers Have Become NMMA Certified!
Congratulations are in order for five additional sailboat manufacturers which are now officially certified under the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s (NMMA) Boat/Yacht Certification program. The manufacturers are: C&C Yachts, Fairport Harbor, OH; Com-Pac Yachts, Clearwater, FL; General Boats, Edenton, NC; The Hinckley Company, Portsmouth, RI; and Tartan Yachts, Fairport Harbor, OH.
Certification is an NMMA membership requirement beginning with all products manufactured for model year 2007 and, according to Robert Newsome, NMMA manager, Engineering Standards, “The industry support for NMMA Certification has been overwhelming thus far.”
While all boats in the United States must meet applicable U.S. Coast Guard regulations, boats built by manufacturers participating in the NMMA Certified program must also meet the more comprehensive standards set by the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC).
Furthermore, to become NMMA Certified, a boat must pass a rigorous third-party inspection which covers more than 30 categories of standards to ensure they meet and adhere to all applicable standards. In addition, manufacturers must also maintain an ongoing, formal Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) program.
