Discover Boating Updates
CHECK OUT WELCOME TO THE WATER AND NEW TRIP PLANNER APP!
Discover Boating recently unveiled its marketing plans to reignite the brand with a new U.S. and Canadian campaign, entitled Welcome to the Water, in an industry webinar held May 17.
The campaign aims to tap current boat owners to help engage new boaters. It is also designed to increase traffic to DiscoverBoating.com, increasing the quality and quantity of prospects for manufacturers and dealers to grow sales of boats and boating-related products and services.
The effort is supported with online advertising, search engine marketing, public relations and social media. The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation’s Take Me Fishing campaign will partner with Discover Boating to leverage the reach of both campaigns.
In other Discover Boating news, the new “Facebook Trip Planner Application” has gone live on Facebook and is now available for boat owners to create customized invites to welcome friends, family, customers and nautical novices aboard ... and, win boating prizes weekly throughout the summer. The new invitation application is being promoted through Discover Boating's Facebook page—which more than doubled its "Likes" in just six weeks, from 39,000 to 112,000, via a strategic Facebook ad buy. Discover Boating Wins Top Marketing Award
Discover Boating, the recreational boating industry’s national marketing campaign, took home the top honor in the Small Budgets-Products category of the 2011 North American Effie Awards at the 43rd annual Effie gala in New York.
“This is a tremendous honor for the recreational boating industry and testament to the dedication of the Discover Boating staff and our marketing partners to provide the best work possible for the industry,” said Carl Blackwell, chief marketing officer for Discover Boating, in a statement. “In spite of economic challenges, Discover Boating focused on the most efficient and effective ways to promote boating, and we’re thrilled to be recognized with a Gold Effie — alongside some of the top brands in the world — as one of the most successful North American campaigns of 2010.”
Discover Boating was honored for its interactive Facebook campaign, Making Waves. To create the campaign, Discover Boating partnered with space 150, a Minneapolis-based digital communications agency.
The award recognizes the campaign’s results: More than 28,000 people entered the Making Waves sweepstakes, with more than 9,000 opting to receive the “Get Started in Boating” DVD. Discover Boating’s Facebook fans grew from 7,000 to more than 39,000 during the campaign’s eight-month run in 2010.
