GROWING SAILING WITH SUMMER SAILSTICE

Here's a challenge: with limited time and budgets, how do you decide which events to attend and support? How about one event that allows you to support participation of all sailors everywhere? Summer Sailstice is an opportunity for members of the sailing industry to gain recognition while cooperatively promoting participation through a global celebration of sail.

Now in its seventh year, Summer Sailstice encourages all sailors everywhere to get out and sail on the longest sailing weekend of the year, this year, June 23/24. Regardless of what kind of sailing you support; dinghy sailing, tall ships, keelboats, windsurfers, or multi-hulls, Summer Sailstice is a chance to celebrate what all sailors have in common, a passion for being on the water under sail.

It's easy for you to help grow a global sailing holiday. You can add a link on your website to www.summersailstice.com, announce it in a newsletter to customers and class associations, or supply prizes to be awarded by random drawing to participants. In 2006, over 60 marine companies supplied over 200 prizes awarded to the 2600 boats signed up in 49 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and over 20 countries.

For 2007, a conservation partner has been added. You can join Summer Sailstice and the Ocean Conservancy in a virtual circumnavigation of the globe!  Summer Sailstice has teamed up with the Ocean Conservancy as a charitable partner so sailors can join them in helping preserve the world's oceans. When signing up for Summer Sailstice, participants can pledge $1 (or more) per mile sailed on Summer Sailstice so we can all sail to save the seven seas. The Ocean Conservancy has been working to save the oceans for over 30 years and it is very deserving of the support of the sailing community.

Summer Sailstice is well timed at the end of the school year and the longest days of summer, and it's the ideal time for us all to announce it's sailing season! People get into sailing to enjoy its freedom, fun and adventure, but most often stay in sailing because of the friends they make in the sailing community. Summer Sailstice helps connect sailors everywhere and build bonds within the sailing lifestyle.

If you want to learn more, donate prizes, or help with Summer Sailstice participation, please visit www.summersailstice.com or email john@summersailstice.com. Most importantly, don't forget to sign up and sail on June 23/24.
