Grandparents and Grand Kids sailing together in the BVI
What do grandparents want? Time with their grandkids. With that in
mind, a new company featuring flotilla-style sailing trips for grandparents
and grand kids has been started. Grands Adventure is designed to offer
grandparents an easy way to take their grand children sailing on a
safe and exciting island vacation.
The inaugural trip will highlight all the wonders of the British
Virgin Islands in a way that helps kids grow and grandparents enjoy. Scheduled
for July 11-19 2009, participants will gather at Sunsail’s
base in Tortola for a welcome reception before heading out on a weeklong
trip throughout the BVI.
A unique itinerary has been custom designed to be both grandparent
and grand kid friendly. Coordinated daily activities like treasure
hunts, conch diving and other water and land adventures will all
help keep the kids busy while allowing grand parents a chance to
just enjoy their time together. There will also be plenty of sailing,
snorkeling, swimming and free time to just kick back and soak up
the sun. No sailing experience is required because all boats will
include a captain. Parents are welcome, but space is limited.
According to Jerry Baltes, founder of Grands Adventure, “This
is exactly the type of program the sailing industry needs to address
our aging demographic. It encourages grandparents to pass along their
passion for sailing, hopefully creating a new lifelong sailor to
help keep our industry healthy and vibrant for generations to come”.
Numerous companies have seen the value in Grands Adventure including:
Sail America, GRAND Magazine, Sunsail, Bitter
End Yacht Club, Blue Water Sailing Magazine,
Broad Reach Marketing, AARP, British Virgin Islands Tourist Board,
Catalina Yachts, NMMA, Prism Polish and Regatta Kids Outfitters.
