Bill Goggins Recognized with SAIL Industry Leadership Award and Named CEO of Harken USA
Bill Goggins, of Harken Yacht Equipment, was awarded the SAIL Industry
Leadership Award on October 10, 2008, during a ceremony at the Annapolis
Sailboat Show. “Tough times bring out team players,” said
publisher Josh Adams. “SAIL is honored to recognize
Bill Goggins, an individual whose personal commitment to our industry
has gone above and beyond.”
Goggins’ contributions to the sailing industry include helping grow the
Discover Sailing program and his efforts to grow the market for sailing. As President
of Sail America, the sailing industry’s trade association, Goggins has
been an agent of change. His accomplishments include oversight of Sail America’s
new affiliation agreement with the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
“Throughout his 10-year tenure with Harken, Bill has made an indelible
mark on one of our industry’s model businesses” stated Adams.
On October 28, 2008, Peter and Olaf Harken and their Board of Directors announced
the appointment of Harken Yacht Equipment’s new leadership team. Harken
Italy's General Manager Giampaolo Spera has been named CEO for Harken's Global
Operations and Harken's Commercial Manager Bill Goggins has been named CEO of
Harken USA, and will report to Spera.
"Investing in the strongest leaders that have helped us get to where we
are today makes the most sense for Harken’s future," explained Peter
and Olaf Harken. "Just like in yacht racing, you want to hand over the helm
in the most planned and smooth transition possible.”
Bill Goggins has been with Harken for 10 years. Prior to becoming Harken USA's
CEO, Goggins was the company's Commercial Manager, responsible for Harken's global
marketing and sales teams. Bill was central to strengthening Harken’s international
marketing and brand management amongst each Harken subsidiary. He also helped
reorganize Harken’s international sales teams.
“Sail America congratulates Bill Goggins
for the much-deserved Leadership Award and promotion,” said
Jonathan Banks, Sail America Executive Director.
