9TH International Sailing Summit in Paris Aims to Learn from Success of Others

Sailing Industry leaders will convene in Paris for the International Sailing Summit (ISS) on Dec. 4th, 2008 to network and share ideas for promoting participation in sailing throughout the world.

After eight previous successful Summits, held all over the world, this summit will be the first meeting in Paris. This 9th ISS will be hosted by FIN, the French nautical federation, and will be held on Dec. 4th as a lead-in to the Paris International Boat Show.

“Learning from the Successes of Others” is the summit’s theme with a great line-up of speakers. In the morning, French leaders will present successes in their industry, led by Bruno Cathelinais, president of the Management Board for Bénéteau Group, who will discuss his company, and Jean Francois Fountaine, CEO of the Fountaine-Pajot, who will discuss how far the sailing multihull market will go. Oliver Bovyn and Philippe Delhay, from the French Sailing Federation, will discuss 450 sailing schools on the coast and waterways. Journalist and writer Daniel Charles will review the major role of culture for a dynamic development of sailing.

In the afternoon session, Nicholas Hayes, will present, “Rescuing the Life Pastime-Why Americans Should Go Sailing.” Tim Coventry and Luissa Smith of ISAF will review success in promoting sailing in other countries, in their presentation, “Connect to Sailing.” Jack Griffin, will discuss “Building a Successful ‘Passion Brand’ for Sailing,” while Seiko International Marketing Director Rob Wilson will present success stories from other sports.

The ISS will conclude with a gala dinner featuring keynote speakers America’s Cup veteran Bruno Troublé, who will provide an update on the America’s Cup, yacht designer Ron Holland, with a presentation on the “Ethereal” project and ISS Patron Gérard Petipas, founder of the Pen Duick company. There will also be a screening of the movie ‘Tabarly’ by Pierre Marcel.

The 9th International Sailing Summit is sponsored by BIC Sport, FIN, the European Confederation of Nautical Industries, Fast Track, FSE Robline, Henri-Lloyd, Nautic, Ronstan, West Marine, Sailing Company and Eurosaf.  It is chaired again by Alistair Murray of Ronstan.
