NICK HAYES TO SPEAK ABOUT
“SAVING SAILING” AT THE MEMBERS MEETING IN ANNAPOLIS

Market researcher Nick Hayes headlines the October 9, 2009 Annual General Members Meeting at the Annapolis Boat Show. As keynote presenter, Hayes will address a hot topic that has sailors around the globe talking.

“Saving Sailing” is the title of his forthcoming book that culminates 12 years of study involving interviews with 1200 sailors around the world. An avid sailor with a personal passion for the sailing sport and lifestyle, Hayes addresses the current decline in sailing participation which he reports has dropped 70% since 1979, and 40% since 1997.

Hayes presents a provocative argument coupled with an action plan he believes is necessary to bring sailing back to its glory days, and beyond. His compelling presentation will cover the current state of sailing in the U.S. including participation statistics, influences and impacts; fundamental challenges and key opportunities; what is required in terms of new ideas and paradigm shifts; and how to measure progress moving forward. “Saving Sailing” builds a clear case for choosing how to spend free time with families and friends in rewarding activities like sailing.

Hayes is no stranger to sailing. He and his family have sailed thousands of races and offshore miles together aboard their B-32 Syrena. He is a four-year board member of the Milwaukee Yacht Club and also serves on the board of the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center. He is actively engaged in the Junior Committee with the South Shore Yacht Club.

Also on tap for the upcoming meeting are reports on the Regional Grow Sailing Initiative, along with boat show news, latest details about the 2010 Sailing Industry Conference, Sail America financial report, and an important announcement regarding an all-new industry initiative you won’t want to miss!

Continental breakfast and networking begins at 8 am and the meeting will finish before the show opens at 10 am. Location is the Fleet Reserve Club, 100 Compromise Street, Annapolis.

See you there!
