CHANGES FOR STRICTLY SAIL™
A recent letter was sent to Sail America members and the sailing industry at large to announce a change in venue for Strictly Sail Miami. For 2009, the event – traditionally held at the Bayside Miamarina – will relocate to Sea Isle Marina, home of the in-water powerboat show.
According to NMMA, organizers of Strictly Sail Miami, the change in venue was necessary because of an anticipated reduction in the number of boats and exhibitors. According to Show Manager Kevin Murphy, this is expected to be a temporary move, and the NMMA has the option to move back to Miamarina in the future.
The in-water sailing exhibitors will be located on Pier 5 at Sea Isle Marina, while sail-related booths will be situated on 16th Street, a heavily populated stretch that runs from the shuttle bus drop-off to the marina entrance. All seminars, special events and features will operate from the adjacent Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Church parking lot.
“The show will continue to showcase a wide selection of what the sailing industry has to offer with live music, parties, great food and everything sailors have come to expect from a Strictly Sail show,” added Jonathan Banks, Sail America executive director.
In addition, Banks noted that while the move changes the sail-only show exclusivity of the past, its inclusion in the powerboat in-water venue will introduce sailing as an option to more boaters and hopefully generate greater leads.
”The goal is to achieve critical mass by keeping all sail-related exhibitors in the same location,” he added. “I hope that Sail America members will support the move and will give the new location a try.”
